Clanmeeting in Scotland

As every year in July, our clan chief called for a clan meeting at the Highland Games in Lochearnhead. And this year we from Germany were there with a large group. But before we went to the “Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park” in Lochearnhead, we met in Inveraray on Loch Fyne.

The Inveraray Highland Games took place there at Inveraray Castle and our friends Susanne and Michael Enders (Clan Campbell Society Germany) had their own clan tent there like every year. That meant "supporting".

Of course we weren't alone. Angie and Hendrik from Clan Gregor were also in the support team.

Yes, of course, wrong clan (MacLaren) at the wrong place (Campbell Land). What some visitors actually noticed. But the interest in “Why in Germany?” was far greater than the “discomfort” of talking to a guy in the “wrong kilt”.
After all, we are in the 21st century and what has worked wonderfully in Germany for years is slowly finding its way into the Scottish clan world. Of course, there have been no wars between the individual clans for a long time, but there are still one or two acquired dislikes and one or two smaller verbal exchanges. Anyone who lives in Düsseldorf or Cologne will know what is meant.

In any case, we were able to support the German branch of Clan Campbell well (we were even part of “Clan March”) and also bring a little German “Scotland culture” to the folk.

Ultimately it was a very nice day with friends with good sound, interesting conversations, lots of entertainment and also the odd alcoholic drink.

After the meeting in Inveraray, everyone went their own way. We were all on private vacation and not as a group. But we all wanted to meet again just in time for the arrival of the clans at the Highland Games in Lochearnhead. And so it was.
